The Pew Center on the States completed its 10-year campaign to advance high-quality, voluntary pre-kindergarten for all three- and four-year-olds in 2011. Through its successes, Pre-K Now changed the national conversation about pre-k education, and in its final report, challenged the nation’s policy makers to transform public education by moving away from the current K-12 system to pre-K-12.

Heather,
ReplyDeleteYour post is both interesting and enlightening. I believe strongly that Pre-K is an important step in the education of our children. I live in Oklahoma, we have Pre-K in our school system however it is not mandatory. The initiative was to make it mandatory by 2012, however due to funding that is not going to happen. I feel it is vital as administrators and ECE professionals we lobby for this initiative. Excellent post!
Hello Heather,
ReplyDeleteGreat post!!! I have chosen the National Black Child Development and they have a section talking about Pre-k-3rd grade. It makes you wonder how the nation does not come up with the money to fund pre-k. Shouldn't we reach out to our children when they are full of questions and ready to learn?
I think its great how the report actually influenced real life. That doesn't seems to happen often. Pre K is important because it sets the foundation for the rest of life. If we invest in pre k programs - not only will the children benefit but the nation as a whole.
ReplyDeleteI am hearing words like "not enough funding" in our policy makers explanations as well. One of my favorite resources that demonstrates the cost effectiveness of our field comes from the ounce of prevention site www.ounceofprevention.org. Dr.James Heckman does a heck of a job explaining the benefits.

Pre K is important I work in head start which is a form of Pre K its for lower income families. These are the first steps of education after parents of course. We hear all the time about how there is no money and we may lose head start, I hope this never happens its too important. I look forward to hearing more about PEW. I found the chart very interesting. We have the lottery that is suppose to generate money for the schools well you can tell by our numbers something is happening to that money.
